Landscape Character Assessment
Landscape Matters has a high level of expertise related to the understanding of and management of natural and cultural landscapes in the UK and abroad. Our experience of landscape mapping is based on a methodology developed as part of the Warwickshire Landscapes Project. The evaluation of landscape sensitivity and spatial tools for habitat restoration at landscape scales is increasingly important as an approach to Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) in England and Wales.
Landscape Matters has worked for a number of clients in this area, including:
- Mapping Landscape Character Types (LCTs) at scales ranging from the regional (1:250,000), local (1:50,000) and farm level.
- Analysis of the strength of character and condition of a landscape, providing the tools for: evaluating the condition and sensitivity of landscapes; developing landscape strategies and management guidelines.
- Training in landscape character assessment and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology.
Natural Resource Management
We also work overseas, specifically training in GIS, landscape ecology, land use planning and resource management. Over the last 10 years we have undertaken projects in Cyprus, Malta, Vietnam, Ghana, Liberia, Zambia and Cameroon.
